The opening hours of Machu Picchu Archaeological Park are from 6:00 am to 5:30 pm. However, the entry schedule is divided into 9 groups (in shifts of 1 hour each group) that start at 6:00 in the morning and end at 2:00 in the afternoon. Since January 2019, each shift or income group only allows 4 hours of stay in the Inca city of Machu Picchu. What does the access ticket to Machu Picchu include?

 

 


Machu Picchu Tickets, according to the type of ticket you buy, only allow you the right to enter:

  • Inca city of Machu Picchu.   • Huayna Picchu Mountain. It allows you to climb, by an ancient Inca road, to the top of the Huayna Picchu mountain. This mountain is the one that appears on all postcards of Machu Picchu. Huayna Picchu rises about 300 meters from the Inca city of Machu Picchu (2450 masl). It hosts various Inca ceremonial centers, including the Temple of the Moon that is located on one of its flanks.
  • Machu Picchu Mountain. Located at (3082 masl) south of the Inca city. The walk is less demanding. From its top you can see the impressive landscape where the Inca city of Machu Picchu, the Huayna Picchu mountain and the impressive Urubamba river are located; as well as the beautiful mountains of the Andes mountain range.
  • Museum of Machu Picchu site. In its exhibition rooms you can see the best samples of the Inca culture, found in Machu Picchu. The Manuel Chávez Ballón site museum is located 1.7 km from the city of Aguas Calientes; on the banks of the Urubamba River; on the side of the Hiram Bingham road; and a few meters above the Ruinas bridge, on the way to Machu Picchu.

How and where to buy tickets to Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu?

 

 


You can buy the Machu Picchu tourist ticket in 3 ways:

  • Online or online booking, only adult rate (not school or student), through the official website: www.machupicchu.gob.pe
  • Through your Travel Agency.
  • Direct purchase at a window, at any of the offices of the Decentralized Culture Directorate - Cusco.

VERY IMPORTANT!

 

The reservation of Machu Picchu tickets is valid for only 3 hours. For this reason, you must make the payment of your reservation within this period of time.

 

Recommendations:

 

 

 

  • Acquire your Machu Picchu tickets weeks or months in advance. 7 to 14 days before your trip in the low season (October to April). And from 14 to 21 days before your trip in high season (May to September). And, in case you want to climb the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountains, 3 to 4 months before your trip.
  • The Machu Picchu ticket is non-transferable and is valid only for the indicated day and time. In addition, it is non-refundable. For this reason; Before making the payment of your reservation, check your data and date of entry.
  • The day of your visit to Machu Picchu, bring with you your identity document: Passport, Identity Document, and / or updated Student Card.
  • At the control gate, in case you need it, hire a local guide to enter Machu Picchu. Or you can also join a guided group that other travelers are organizing. The cost of a 2.5 hour group tour costs around $ 25.00; while a private guide costs from $ 70.00. However, remember that it is not mandatory to hire a guide to enter Machu Picchu, but they done the experience more incredible and interesting.
  • To climb the Huayna Picchu Mountain you must be over 12 years old.
