Prevent the Altitude Sicknes!!
Altitude sickness also known as mountain sickness or Soroche is a bad physical being due to lack of adaptation of the organism to high altitudes and the increase of atmospheric pressure in large altitudes. That is the reason why it is advisable to take a coca leaves tea before the tour or take a pill that helps fight this evil. If you feel bad during the trek, please do not hesitate to inform our guide, he/she is trained to help you.
We will begin our adventure to this incredible mountain range by picking you up from your hotel in Cusco between 06:30 and 07:00 a.m. To go on board our shared tourist mobility to the southern of Cusco. After a 2 hour trip through picturesque villages we will arrive at Pitumarca where we will make a brief stop to appreciate a small village where we will take our breakfast. We will continue our journey to the place called "parking" from where we can already see the mountains of colors of which we will have a better view ascending for about 45 minutes, which is a less demanding trek than that of Vinicunca. From the viewpoint of Palcoyo we can appreciate the 3 mountains of 7 colors, which have colors that resemble the rainbow for their multi-colored layers. In addition we can appreciate a curious forest of stones which is composed of rocky peaks formed naturally by rain and wind. After enjoying the scenic beauty of this place, we will return to Pitumarca to enjoy a delicious lunch in the and then finally return to the city of Cusco where we will be arriving at approximately 18:00 hrs.
Being located at 4,900 meters, the risk to suffer altitude sikness is always present. In any case, because the walk is without slope and last one hour, most travelers (regardless of age) will not have problems. The recommendation is always to spend at least two days in Cusco before traveling to Palcoyo to acclimate the body. If you want more information on this topic, read our article on how to avoid altitude sickness. As for the cold weather, it is very important that you wear warm clothes due to the temperatures below zero in Palcoyo. A windbreak is also recommended.
